Maestro Jorge Cappa’s Curriculum Vitae (musical Biography)
Jorge Cappa was born in Buenos Aires, where he began his musical studies with Maestro Tomas Pomilio. Later Cappa perfected with Maestros Jorge Martinez Zarate, Abel Carlebaro and Andres Segovia.
Lengthwise his career, Jorge Cappa has stood out due to the debut of fundamental works for guitar literature, for example, Fernando Sor’s (1778-1839) Grand Sonata Op. 25 and Grand Sonata Op. 22, Niccolo Paganini’s Grand Sonata in A major for solo Guitar, Manuel M. Ponce’s “Romantic Sonata” (dedicated To Franz Schubert, who loved the Guitar), and Johann Sebastian Bach’s four Suites original for lute.
Maestro Cappa has performed at Colon Theatre (Buenos Aires) in 1976 (“Sor Festival”, two consecutive Concerts), 1977 (“The Sonata” Cycle), 1982 (Homage to Niccolo Paganini, unique in Argentina), 1983, 1984, 1985 (Homage to Johann Sebastian Bach, organized by Master J. P. Franze) and 2004 (Homage to Francisco Tarrega).
During his numerous European tours Cappa has performed at Wigmore Hall (London, England, United Kingdom), L’Eglise Saint Germain L’Auxerrois (Paris, France), “Casa Argentina” (University City, Paris, France), Colegio Mayor Argentino (Madrid, Spain), etc.
Maestro Jorge Cappa’s recordings and CDs are being broadcasted by international radios, for example, Radio Netherlands (Holland), BBC (UK), Radio France, RTVe (Spain), Radio XLNC 1 (USA), WDAV Classical Radio (North Carolina, USA), Vatican Radio, SBS Radio (Melbourne, Australia), Radio University of Salamanca (Spain), Radio CIUT (Canada), Radio UNAM (Mexico), Radio SODRE (Uruguay), and many radios in Argentina: RLA Radio Nacional , FM 100.3 Cultura Musical, the first FM Radio Rivadavia, Amadeus FM 103.7 (in syntony with WQXR, Classical Music Radio Station of The New York Times), etc. Performances on Television: Channel 7, 13 and 9; RTVe (Spain).
Maestro Jorge Cappa was eulogized by prestigious critics like Napoleon Cabrera, L. M. Hernandez, Emilio Estevanovich, Abel Lopez Iturbe, Diego Fischermann, and famous personalities Nelson Castro, Victor Hugo Morales, Horacio Sanguinetti, Nestor Hugo Carcamo (Radio Netherlands, Holland), Pancho Ibañez, Eduardo Mc' Gregor (RTVe, Spain).
He has performed at Medicine School of University of Buenos Aires (UBA, Grand Hall), Law School of University of Buenos Aires, (UBA, main Auditorium), Legislature of Buenos Aires, Casa de la Cultura, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Fine Arts Museum), Spanish Art Museum Enrique Larreta, Historical Town Council of Buenos Aires, Notaries Public Association, Engineers Argentine Center (ex Belar Yrigoyen Palace), Golden Hall (Municipality of La Plata), Metropolitan Cathedral (Buenos Aires), Cathedrals at La Plata, Gral. San Martin, San Isidro, Moron.
He has visited cities in Argentina: Salta, San Juan, La Cumbre (Cordoba), Bahia Blanca, America, Rio Gallegos, Usuahia, Rio Turbio, etc.
Since 2000, Cappa participates in Annual Concert Series of Argentine Institute Sacred Music (Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Belgrano, Buenos Aires).
Maestro Jorge Cappa has stood out due to do Concerts like: “SOR FESTIVAL” (two consecutive Concerts, three ours of music), “BACH FESTIVAL” (three consecutive Concerts), “The Sonata Cycle” (one Concert including Fernando Sor’s (1778-1839) Grand Sonata Op. 25 and Grand Sonata Op. 22, Niccolo Paganini’s Grand Sonata in A major for solo Guitar, Manuel M. Ponce’s “Romantic Sonata”; “5 Centuries of Music for Guitar” (since XVI Century up to XX Century).
He has performed Paganini’s Grand Sonata in A Major for solo Guitar on prestigious critic Emilio Estevanovich’s TV Program. When Maestro Cappa’s interpretation concluded, Estevanoich said: Is it an Orchestra or a Guitar?
Maestro Jorge Cappa also was eulogized by composer Nicolas Alfonso (Royal Conservatoire de Musique, Bruxelles, Belgique). He listened Maestro Cappa interpreting Sor’s Sonatas Op. 22 and 25 and said: “To do this so, to slay this way, it is necessary to have the music since belly”.
In regards to Maestro Jorge Cappa, Abel Carlevaro eulogized specially the timbre (the sound) in his interpretations.
French manager Monsieur Robert Vidal also eulogized Maestro Jorge Cappa.
On the other hand, it is notable the selection done by musicologist Nora Malamud: Maestro Jorge Cappa Sor's Grand Sonata Op. 22; John Williams Sor's Variations Op. 9; Narciso Yepes Sor's Variations Op. 28 (Broadcast 1985).
In 2004, Cappa was included playing Federico Moreno Torroba's works for guitar close to celebrated Placido Domingo (Torroba's Zarzuelas) on Province Radio.
Maestro Jorge Cappa also participated on the film "The History of the Guitar" made to order of National Arts Reservoir. In this film he plays The Cantigas of Holy Mary by king Alphonso X "The Learned".
Maestro Jorge Cappa's Solidarity Work
In many opportunities Maestro Jorge Cappa has been convoked by important institutions to offer "Solidarity Concerts" or "Beneficent Concerts". For instance May, 6th 2006 Maestro Cappa did a Concert at Il Piccolo Teatro (San Martin) to celebrate “25 Years of Semanario Huella”, weekly newspaper directed by Bachelor Alberto Chiesa. Through this event Santa Magdalena de Nagasaki Foundation could collect more than 1000 Kilograms of food to its help program at Santiago del Estero Province.
In 2005, Cappa was convoked by the most important Audiology Association in Latin America (ASALFA) to offer a Concert to collect funds for the institution. It was an excellent and moving evening and the objective was amply surpassed.
Through the diffusion of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suites for lute, what he plays from original scores, he did many Concerts at Churches and Cathedrals in Argentina. Simultaneously, in many of these Concerts it was collected food to social help. This objective also was materialized through Maestro Jorge Cappa’s Concert at UBA’s Law School. It was collected food for Children Home “Mis alumnos más amigos”.
